The space between care and calm
Good design can’t wag a tail. But it can help.
Veterinary environments are complex. They must balance medical performance, animal behavior, team wellbeing, and human emotion - all under one roof.
We bring specialized knowledge and thoughtful design together to make every square foot work better for you and the animals in your care.
Veterinary Hospitals
When designing a hospital or clinic, we listen first. Blending your needs with our expertise, we create a flow custom to you! We focus on best practices, fear free standards, and lean into creative problem solving to design a space as efficient as your team.
Animal Shelters
We design shelters with families in mind. From the adoption corridor where Jane meets Spot, to the volunteers who clean the kennels, we are considering durability and aesthetics in the materials everyone will encounter. We imagine your shelter to be a place where families meet their new besties and where volunteers find purpose. We specify high quality, budget friendly materials, curate a specialized flow for moving animals safely, and fear free guidelines to reduce stress, improve enrichment, and help animals find homes.
Specialty Spaces
From the outdoor catio, to the high-volume spay/neuter clinic, we want each space to work as hard as your team. We are passionate about the specialty spaces, but realize they are not for everyone. We will let your model drive decisions as we listen and curate each project to the communities needs.
Featured project
A shelter that
serves more.
Humane Society of Charlotte · Charlotte, NC
When the Humane Society of Charlotte approached us to design a 26,000sf facility for them, we considered it a privilege. Their current facilities were in disrepear and limbo and they had the opportunity to build on a lot in the heart of an up and coming Charlotte neighborhood. By working closely with their team and the board of directors, we designed an award winning shelter for them that serves the local community. They consistently host events, puppy trainings, adoption days and food banks from their new facility. They've adopted over 3000 animals out of this building and are continuing an expansion project to serve as a high volume spay/neuter clinic for the County.
Our approach
We listen to every
voice in the room.
(Including the ones who cant speak!)
Our process pairs your program and staff needs with animal centered research to uncover what makes your project shine. We listen to staff and team leadership, county guidelines if applicable, and leading animal care experts to create a hospital or shelter that flows. By tapping into our years of experience, you are free to dream knowing that your design team understands adjacencies and flow.
Step 1: Schematic Design (SD)
Listen
We learn your goals, workflows, community, and constraints. We hear your dreams and concerns. We chat with managers and gather as much information about your project as we can!
Step 2: Design Development (DD)
Sketch
We translate insight into a clear, creative design vision. We will show you floor plan sketches and talk through flows. Its easier to move walls on paper than in real life! We want to make sure your needs are sufficiently met during this phase.
Step 3: Construction Documents (CD)
Deliver
We detail every room, material, and operational/equipment needs. We curate finishes based on your brand and function needs. And we combine it all into a package that is ready for bidding, construction, or fundraising!
Step 4: Construction Administration (CA)
Participate
We stay close through construction and opening day. We know questions will arise, and we want to be your first call!
